Agreed, I'm running the XFX 5870 and the Gigabyte GA-EX58-Extreme and I have been really happy with how it runs BFBC2.

motherboards:

Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R Motherboard - $279.00 (has usb3 and faster sata3 - neither much good atm but might as well get em)

Power Supply:
CoolerMaster Silent Pro M700 - $169.00 - (pretty good imho - generally good reviews online)

Cases:
CoolerMaster HAF 922 Case - $149.00
or some sort of Largish Server/Gaming case - cases are always personal pref imho.

Graphics Card:
Gigabyte GeForce GTX 285 - $499.00 - not bad but def not the fastest around atm. 295gtx is about $100 more. ATI cards are very good again atm though as has been mentioned. 295gtx is about $80 cheaper than a 295gtx with performance at most resolutions being a bit better by the 295gtx. What monitor size and resolution are you going to be running?

CPU:
Intel Core i7 920 - $369.00 - nice processor, oc' like crazy if u can b bothered
or one fo these i7 CPU's

Windows 7 FTW[/quote] - y not

Dual screens are nice but hardly essential. Maybe spend the extra cash on the video card instead?

GTX285 = $500? massive rip off.

ATI 4890 is onyl slightly worse performance and is less than half that price. If you want to spend $500 get one of the new 58XX cards. There is no other option.

There is no reason to be anti-ATI.... just naive of you.

I have always been a Nvidia fan too but seriously, if you want best card atm go the Ati. I went from a 8800gtx to the 5870 and the Ati runs cooler, is completely stable, is quieter and as expected runs bc2 fast and smooth..

Does the job very nicely

I also had a GTX 275 until it blew up on me so i went to the dark side and got a HIS 5770 and haven't regretted it. Plus i saved over 100 bucks :)

I went full retard on my latest machine and decided to get a stupidly large case... the Corsair Obsidian 800D. Its nice :P

Grabbed an i7 920 haven't OC'd it atm .. probably won't. For graphics I grabbed a GTX275. In hindsight I might have gone with an ATI card but I have a bit of a thing for nVidia and by all accounts they work better for Age of Conan which was the main reason for the desktop purchase.
