Well…. What a weekend. I decided to remain in Melbourne to cover the ESGN Midcity tournaments to ensure Muzza and the xbox cod lads are putting on their game faces. Stance was sent to Sydney to assist the lol lads at Intime for the ESGN League of Legends Tournament.
I caught up with the xbox cod lads at their hotel in Melbourne the night before just to make sure everything was in order for the next day knowing Saturday 9am isn’t a great start for me.
As for Muzza being a Melbournite like myself meant he needed little babysitting.
Arriving at Midcity at like 11am on Saturday it was quickly made apparent that Buzzin had left his COD game at home, the Razer headsets we gave them where for a PC, which require a splitter to make them work via a Astro mix amp. So yeah not the greatest start and it certainly didn’t take long to see the repercussions.
Catching up with Muzza first up saw him push through his pool stage undefeated however his streak was short lived and he found himself pretty quickly in the loser bracket. He then fell short in the Loser bracket final bowing out finishing 4th. The competition was fantastic and all the games yet again nail biting and honestly just too hard to call any of them. Muzza kept his chin up and is just keen to adjust his attention for ACL Sydney. Skip took out the Grandfinal in a convincing performance going undefeated all day.
As for the xbox lads they finished up their pool games losing to Mindfreak 2-0. The team had a few puzzled faces after that match. They really weren’t sure what they could have done better. I felt the only thing to say was, ‘what the… you guys didn’t prac enough, damn it, man up, you guys pranced around those maps, where’s your head fella’s.
I really wanted to say a lot more however I also know I have habit of being overly blunt so I held back.. a little and just stomped around saying ‘You guys have better have some better answers, fast.’
But from that moment on the boys just turned it up, I found I was left with very little to add, besides, um ok, next team then. They put away Mindfreak and Voxe to seal their spot in the Grandfinal which eventually saw Mindfreak returning after beating Ci in the loser bracket who had just come off an amazing win against Voxe Eminor.
However Mindfreak just couldn’t sum up the necessary strikes to claw back from their last lost to fray finishing the Grandfinal 6-1 to fray. It was a great win by the lads, after a shakey start and many in the community righting them off, even I had my doubts. Our critics and Ci ( lol ) thought having to bench Baked for Fighter was a risky one. The team however wasn’t phased just knew they had to put in the work to make it happen.
However all this drama is to be repeated all over again at ACL Sydney. It is already looking to be an exciting event and the xbox lads are already refocussing.
